SHANNON MILLER, Seven-time Olympic Medalist and America's most decorated gymnast presents "Competing with Cancer", an Evening with Olympic Champion & Cancer Survivor. Shannon is an advocate for women's health and fitness, an author, a motivational speaker, a television/radio host and a champion of childhood obesity. She was diagnosed in 2011 with ovarian cancer and has written a number of health/wellness related books. This summer Shannon is on the air with reports from the London 2012 Olympics. Shannon will be sharing her experiences with us in September, as a competitor, as a commentator and as a cancer survivor. The Eleanor B. Daniels Fund of Fletcher Allen Healthcare and the Vermont Center Center of the University of Vermont are partnering to bring Shannon Miller to Burlington. RELAY FOR LIFE: The Eleanor B. Daniels Fund had a booth and supported the 2011 American Cancer Society's Relay for life, June 22, 2011 at the Champlain Valley Exposition. We helped to raise funds to support the ACS, as well as to honor and support all women who are affected by gynecologic cancers. PT360 of Williston, Vermont offered free chair massages to survivors and caregivers in our booth for the second year and they were a bit hit! We also encourage all survivors and their caregivers to join us again next year at this event. Together, we can help to find a cure!
SURVIVORSHIP HEALTH FAIR: Saturday November 5th, 2011 PT 360, 426 Industrial Avenue, Suite 190, Williston, vermont Survivors were invited to PT360 for a program that included trying water aerobics in the PT360 salt water pool, chair massage and a Yoga Class Also, Nancy Brennan, author and survivor, led a discussion about exercise and survivorship. Nancy is the author of "Action Against Cancer".
CANCER SURVIVORSHIP - Living Well Beyond Cancer, Thursday May 5, 2011 Speaker: Speaker: Deb Harris, PT, RD Certified Lymphedema Therapist Deb Harris, offered an overview of post treatment potential medical issues – like fatigue, joint pain, impaired sensations and more and how a pro-active approach to Physical Therapy is part of the new survivorship frontier. Learn what services are available to you and what you might need to improve your health after your treatments for cancer. Deborah Harris, PT, RD, Certified Lymphedema Therapist: Deb Harris has Bachelor's of Science Degrees in General Dietetics and Physical Therapy from the University of Vermont. She has over 18 years of health care experience, with specialties in general orthopedics, women's health, lymphedema, and postural restoration. She recently attended the Cancer Survivorship Conference at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA. She has been working diligently to develop an oncology rehabilitation and survivorship program at PT360 where she is employed.
